- You'll see, you'll see.
But all the way to Isola Polvese.
- [Young Man] A million pesos says you won't make it!
- Oh, says who?
Mr Universe, huh?
- [Woman] I think you could make it.
- [Father] (speaks in Spanish) Give your papa a kiss.
- No, no, no, you're wet.
You're wet.
(laughs) - Mm.
- Mm.
(laughs) - Your husband thinks I'm too old to swim to Isola Polvese.
- Ricardo, don't be stupid.
You know Papa can't resist a challenge.
- Ricardo's just jealous because he's not as fit as your dad.
- Hey!
- (laughs) Hey!
- [Father] Thank you.
- What would you like to drink, Ms.
Hamilton?
- Campari soda, thanks, Kirsty.
And you can call me Zoe.
- Of course.
The usual for everyone else?
- Yes, please.
- Oh, yes.
- Hello.
- Ah, good evening, Mr Priest.
- Kirsty.
- Gin and tonic?
- Uh, yes, please.
Good evening, everyone!
- Hey, Mr Priest.
- Zoe, it's lovely to see you.
- Hey, Michael, hey.
- [Michael] It's been years.
- I didn't know you were gonna be here.
- Well, likewise.
- Did you have a good day?
- Yes, but-- - Seen one fresco, you've seen them all?
- No.
- No?
- I was going to say, it was a very long drive.
(Ricardo speaking in Spanish) - It was good that you went.
- Ricardo.
(father speaks in Spanish) - You may be the king of the tennis court, but I was a swim champion.
- Yes, when you were 16, not 60!
- Ah!
I'm not 60.
- Ah, no?
- Uh-uh.
- Not for another five hours.
- [Michael] Every hour counts.
- Yeah.
- I'll show you all.
Can't compete with me.
I don't think he can beat me.
- No?
Are you sure?
- Good afternoon, everyone.
What's the joke?
- A swimming race across the lake.
- Oh.
- You up for it, Lee?
- Sure.
As long as I can do it in the boat.
(people laughing) Zoe, darling!
I should have been here to welcome you, but I promised Michael and Luciana that I'd take them to Sansepolcro.
- (kissing) Don't worry, Lee.
You know this place is a second home to me.
- Oh.
- Mrs.
Hamilton?
- Oh, thanks, hon.
You've met Kirsty, my new PA?
- Uh, yeah.
- Did you have a good journey, Ms.
Hamilton?
Must have been fun, coming by helicopter.
- Uh, it was a freebie.
I'm doing a piece for the Los Angeles Reporter.
- [Sylvia] Sounds exciting.
Excuse me.
(people laughing) (people speaking indistinctly) - Did you get everything?
- Yes, the cigar case for Senor Magrina is on your desk, and the roses will be delivered tomorrow, in time for brunch.
- Wonderful.
I just need everything perfect for Hector.
Maybe we should delay dinner by about half an hour, give the swimmers time to change.
- I've already spoken to Chiara.
- Oh, you're a marvel, Kirsty.

- Evening, Sylvia.
What's Hector been up to?
- Stayed home with his son-in-law while Lee took his daughter sightseeing.
I've been running errands, but the housekeeper says there were no visitors today.
- Is he still planning a trip to Rome?
- Tomorrow, after the birthday brunch Lee's throwing for him.
- Vehicle?
- A car's coming at 2:00.
I'll put a tracker on it.
How about your end?
- Nothing new.
But the Americans still think there's a military coup brewing in Aroca, so we need you to hang on in there for a while, sorry.
- At least this job is close to home.
- [Elijah] (laughs) Ciao.
(suspenseful music) - Why do you need so much?
- That's not your business.
- Well, it is if you're asking me to bankroll you.
Are you in debt again?
- [Zoe] No.
But my credit cards are maxed out.
- [Lee] This can't go on, Zoe.
Your last stint in rehab, it cost a fortune.
- Dad was always there for me if I needed help.
- I know you loved your father, sweetie.
So did I. He was a wonderful man, but awful with money.
I might as well tell you now.
I have to sell this place.
- No!
- [Lee] Well, I can't afford to keep two houses going.
- Well, sell the one in DC.
- My life is in the States.
I love it here as much as you.
- No, you have no idea what Villa Rossa means to me.
What it meant to my mom.
- You're right.
I'm sorry.
But I just don't have a choice about this.
I'm hoping Hector will buy it.
(Zoe gasps) (suspenseful music) - [Zoe] I won't let you do this.
(door closes) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (birds sing) (footsteps approaching) (Sylvia pants) (water splashing) (suspenseful music continues) (birds chirping) - Morning, honey.
So sweet of you to get Hector a gift.
What is it?
- You'll see when he opens it.
- Hmm.
- Papa is still in his room.
We told him 12:30, and he has to leave for Rome at 2:00.
- Don't worry, Amor.
He'll be here soon.
(suspenseful music) - Don't worry.
(gulls cry) (suspenseful music continues) (water splashing) (birds chirping) - Kirsty.
(Luciana speaking in Spanish) (Michael speaking in Spanish) (Ricardo speaking in Spanish) (Luciana speaking in Spanish) - Shall I search the grounds?
The lake shore?
Maybe he went for a stroll and had a fall.
- No, Hector doesn't do strolls.
But, yes, thank you, Kirsty.
We have to do something.
- [Luciana] I'm worried about him.
- [Michael] Of course you are.
(Lee sighs) (suspenseful music continues) (gulls cry) (suspenseful music continues) (footsteps echoing) (gulls cry) - Hector!
- Hector!

- [Luciana] Papa!
- Any sign of him?
- No.
- No.
We need to call the police.
(suspenseful music continues) (birds chirping) (woman speaking in Italian) - [Lee] I need to report a missing person.
(tense music) (engine roaring) (car doors shut) (tense music continues) (doorbell chimes) (woman speaking in Italian) (tense music continues) (Ricardo speaks quietly in Spanish) (Lee exhales) - [Lee] Thanks for coming so quickly.
- Signora Hamilton?
- Yes.
- I understand that one of your guests is missing.
- That's right.
Hector Magrina.
This is his daughter, Luciana.
And her husband, Ricardo Garcia.
- This morning, a fisherman found a body in the lake, close to Isola Polvese.
- Will you look take a look at this picture, ma'am?
(Ricardo speaks in Spanish) - [Luciana] No.
- It's Hector.
- No.
(cries) - Let me see.
(Luciana continues to cry) - Oh, my god.
That's him.
(Luciana continues to cry) - Did he tell anyone he was going to swim?
- No.
It's too far.
I wouldn't have let him go alone.
(Luciana speaks in Spanish) (Ricardo speaks in Spanish) - [Ricardo] Luciana, come back.
- [Giovanni] What does she mean?
- Last night, Ricardo challenged Hector to a race, over to the island.
It was a joke.
We all knew that.
Hector liked to win.
- [Giovanni] Do you think he went out to practice?
(Lee sighs) - [Lee] How did he die?
- We'll know more after the postmortem.
Can you tell me about Signor Magrina?
- [Lee] Hector was from Aroca, in South America.
He was a finance minister there until recently.
- [Giovanni] I'll need his passport to inform the relevant authorities.
- Surely that's his family's job?
Or mine?
- It can be complicated when a foreigner dies in Italy.
- The American ambassador will help, if necessary.
My late husband held a senior position in the U.S.
State Department.
- Thank you, signora, but I can handle this.
We need to see Senor Magrina's room.
- Chiara?
Show them Mr Magrina's room.

(suspenseful music continues) (female officer speaking in Italian) - Sylvia.
- Has Chiara gone?
- You can come out now.
(Sylvia chuckles) (door shuts) But, what are-- - Shh!
(suspenseful music) (suspenseful music continues) (door shuts) (footsteps echoing) (suspenseful music continues) (bird calls) - Giovanni.
- Sylvia, what are you doing here?
- I told you I had some more freelance work.
- Yes, but I thought in another country, like last time.
- [Sylvia] You assumed that.
I never said so.
- Sylvia, if there was a threat to Signor Magrina, I have the right to know.
- Let's walk.
(footsteps echoing) Lee's late husband was Merrit Hamilton, a State Department heavyweight.
- Yeah, she mentioned it.
- Did she also mention he worked for the CIA?
- No.
- When Merrit was alive, this place was a bolthole for politicians and spooks.
Lee's been trying to keep that tradition going.
- And where does Magrina fit in?
- Old friend of the Hamiltons.
- And former finance minister of Aroca.
- Yes.
- Did he resign, or was he pushed?
- It's not entirely clear.
The press in Aroca is accusing him of embezzling government funds.
- Is that why you're here?
Oh.
You can't blame me for asking.
- I'm keeping an eye on things, that's all.
I know you have to wait for the postmortem, but what do you think happened?
- I don't know.
But, um, a guy called Piero Costa found the body caught up in his fishing net, near the island.
Signora Hamilton mentioned something about a race across the lake.
- There was a lot of talk about it.
Ricardo made some kind of challenge to his father-in-law.
It was a joke but it felt... - What?
- Overdone.
I'd better get back before I'm missed.
- Sylvia.
When can I see you?
- I'm not Sylvia, remember?
I'm Kirsty.
Kirsty Scott, the perfect PA.
Ciao.
- Ciao.
(birds continue chirping) (Giovanni sighs) (siren wailing in the distance) (phone rings) (ringing stops) - Hey, what's up?
- Hector Magrina is dead.
(suspenseful music) Looks like a swimming accident.
- You think it was?
- Maybe.
The carabinieri are keeping an open mind.
Were you expecting something like this to happen?
- No, but Magrina had a lot of enemies, and if there's a coup brewing in Aroca, well maybe somebody thought killing Hector would put a stop to it.
Are you okay to stick around for a while?
- Sure.
- Good.
I'll brief Felicity.
(suspenseful music continues) (birds chirping) (person knocking at door) - [Lee] Come.
(door opens) (door shuts) (Lee sighs) God, what an awful day.
- I'm so sorry.
Was he a very old friend?
- He was really a pal of my late husband's, but I've known the family for a long time.
- It was good of you to invite him here for his birthday, then.
- Oh, he kind of invited himself.
And you didn't say no to Hector.
- I can imagine.
Are you still going out for dinner?
It's Chiara's night off.
- Oh, no, cancel the reservation, please.
(sighs) I could use a whisky on the rocks though.
(footsteps echoing) - I can rustle up a simple supper, if you like.
- Ah, no need.
Ricardo's gone to Perugia to identify the body.
Zoe insisted on driving him.
Luciana's gone to bed.
- [Sylvia] Where's Mr Priest?
- Oh, taken himself off somewhere for the evening.
- Is there anything else I can do to help?
- Thanks, Kirsty.
You might as well take the rest of the evening off.
(suspenseful music) (door opens) (door closes) (suspenseful music continues) (pleasant music) (birds sing) (people speaking indistinctly) (pleasant music continues) (footsteps echoing) (people continue speaking indistinctly) (footsteps approaching) - Grazie.
- Prego.
- I'd like to take a trip out on the lake.
Somebody said Piero Costa might take me.
- (sighs) I don't think he'll want to do that.
- Why not?
- Somebody drowned in Trasimeno today.
- That's awful.
- Yes.
Piero found the body.
(suspenseful music) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) - Yeah, that's him.
(Ricardo sighs) Thank you, Capitano.
Let's go.
- [Zoe] Is everything okay?
(suspenseful music continues) (birds chirping) (people speaking indistinctly) (Sylvia speaking in Italian) (fisherman speaking in Italian) - [Sylvia] Grazie.
(gravel crunching) Ciao.
(Piero speaking in Italian) - [Chiara] Signora Kirsty.
(Chiara gasps) - Hello, Chiara.
What are you doing here?
- [Chiara] I came to find my son.
- My uncle found a body maybe 40 years ago.
And this... It brought him bad luck for the rest of his life.
- Did you ever meet Hector Magrina when he was alive?
- No.
- Why are you asking all these questions?
- Mrs.
Hamilton feels terrible about what's happened.
She asked me to find out what I can, for the family's sake.
- Don't tell her that Piero is my son.
Please.
(Chiara speaking in Italian) - I will see you tomorrow.
Hm-hmm.
(Chiara speaking in Italian) (suspenseful music) - [Ricardo] I think you had too much to drink.
- I'm fine.
Listen.
We'll be all right.
Just... (Ricardo grunts nervously) (Isabel speaks indistinctly) - Hello.
- Hi.
- Hey.
- Do you need anything?
Food, a nightcap?
- No, thanks.
- Yeah, we're all right.
- Yeah, come on, Ricardo.
- We had something to eat in Perugia.
(door creaks) - Buonasera.
- Oh, I hope you found somewhere nice for dinner, Mr Priest.
- We're in Italy, Kirsty.
Of course I did.
Do you want a hand with the bike?
- I'm okay.
Thank you, Mr Priest.
(suspenseful music) (footsteps echoing) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (shutter latch clicks open) (suspenseful music continues) - [Michael] Oh, I thought it was your favorite.
- It is.
But I need the money.
Zoe's never seen this, so she won't demand a share of it.
I had to tell her I was planning on selling Villa Rossa.
Now she hates me more than ever.
- Will you put the house on the open market?
(Lee sighs) - I don't have much choice.
- [Michael] Well, I can find a buyer for the bronze, no question.
But, um, you know there's another way.
- We can't take the risk right now.
I mean, not with everything that's going on.
(Lee sighs) (sighs) Back in the safe you go.
- [Michael] With all your other secrets.
(suspenseful music) (suspenseful music continues) (Sylvia knocks on door) (door opens and creaks) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (door creaks) (door shuts) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (door creaks open) (suspenseful music continues) (door shuts) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (camera clicks) (suspenseful music continues) (footsteps approaching) (Michael thuds on door) (Sylvia gasps softly) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (door opens) (door shuts) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (birds chirping) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (birds chirping) (suspenseful music continues) (birds continue chirping) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (doors shut) (suspenseful music continues) (feet thud) (Sylvia gasps) (Sylvia panting) (birds chirping) (engine roaring) (suspenseful music) (footsteps echoing) (suspenseful music continues) (doorbell chimes) (footsteps echoing) (door opens) - Buongiorno, signora.
(Chiara speaking in Italian) (Giovanni speaking in Italian) - Hey.
- Elijah.
- What's up?
- I need a check on some IDs.
I've just sent you the images.
Same picture but two different passports.
Michael George Priest and William Thurston Brown.
Find out if either of them have spent time in South America.
- [Elijah] Okay.
Will do.
- Thanks.
- Anything else?
- Check police records and service networks too.
- [Elijah] I'm on it.
(gravel crunching) (birds chirping) (footsteps approaching) - Please, signora.
The postmortem results came in, signora.
Your father was drowned.
There are signs around his wrists, ankles, and some bruising on his neck.
(Ricardo sniffles) - They tied him up and pushed him under the water?
- It looks that way.
I'm sorry.
(Luciana sighs) - I thought he would be safe here!
(footsteps echoing) (door slams) - Please let me know if there's anything else you need, Capitano.
- I'll need to speak to everyone in the house.
- I'll tell you everything I've found out so far, but I need to be quick.
(suspenseful music) - [Sylvia] Luciana Magrina Garcia is Hector Magrina's only child.
Went to Harvard Business School.
She and her husband have a successful sports promotions company, but she's the driving force.
(suspenseful music continues) (recorder beeps) - Signora, can you tell us about your parents' divorce?
- Papa had an affair.
Not the first one, but this time, Mama didn't forgive him.
- Have you spoken to your mother since your father's body was found?
- Of course!
She's upset.
They were married 30 years.
- What is the relationship like after the divorce?
- Okay.
He gave her everything she wanted.
All the houses, the cars, a lot of money.
She deserved it.
- [Barzini] Do you know what is in his will?
- No.
You think I'd kill him for his money?
- We don't think anything at the moment, signora.
- Find out who did this to him.
(suspenseful music continues) - [Sylvia] Ricardo Garcia tries to act like he was born into money, but he was Luciana's tennis coach.
- Grazie.
- Prego.
- [Sylvia] And I don't think she or her father ever let him forget it.
- How close were you to Signor Magrina?
- He was like a father.
We talked about everything.
- He must have had enemies, like most politicians do.
- I guess.
They tried to kill him twice in Aroca.
- [Giovanni] Did anyone come here to the villa to see him?
- Not that I know of.
- He was planning a trip to Rome yesterday.
Do you know why?
- Yeah, he had a business meeting.
- [Barzini] Do you know who with?
- No.
I'm sorry.
- So not that close.
(suspenseful music) (Ricardo sighs) (footsteps approaching) - [Sylvia] Zoe Hamilton is Lee's stepdaughter.
Lee was hoping to sell Villa Rossa to Hector.
Zoe was furious, because she loves the place.
But they don't know I know that.
- Will this take long?
- I hope not.
How long have you been staying here at the Villa Rossa?
- I'm not staying at the Villa Rossa.
My parents bought this place when I was a kid.
It's just as much my home as it is Lee's.
- Oh.
My apologies.
So, when did you arrive here at the villa?
- Day before yesterday.
- [Barzini] You came from the United States?
- Hmm.
From Sardinia.
- Oh.
- [Giovanni] How well did you know Hector Magrina?
- He was one of my dad's friends.
But, my dad had a lot of friends.
(suspenseful music) - [Sylvia] Michael Priest is an art historian.
Charming, but there's something off about him.
It's like he's playing a part.
- Mr Priest?
- Kirsty.
- Who is it?
- That's a good question.
Lee's husband thought it was a portrait of Francis of Assisi by Luca Signorelli.
It's actually a rather obscure saint called Amato Ronconi, painted by God knows who.
- How can you tell?
- Oh, pigmentation, iconography.
And the beard's wrong.
But it's an easy mistake to make.
To the untrained eye, one medieval saint looks much like another.
- The capitano is ready in the greenhouse.
- Ah.
- [Barzini] The morning Senor Magrina's body was found, you went swimming in the lake.
At what time?
- Hmm, 6:30, maybe.
- Did you see Hector Magrina?
Or anyone else?
- No one at all.
- You're advising Signora Hamilton on her art collection?
- Informally.
Singing for my supper, you might say.
- Is she intending to sell any of her paintings?
- You'd better ask her that, don't you think?
- What does this have to do with Hector's murder?
- [Sylvia] Lee is tough and smart, but struggling since her husband died, for money and status.
- Michael Priest is the only guest who's not a member of Hector Magrina's family, or of yours.
- Michael and Hector got on well.
- Is that why they were here together?
- No.
Hector's visit was arranged ages ago.
Michael was supposed to come next month.
He called from Florence last weekend, saying if he could come sooner.
I mean, he's an old friend.
Hector didn't mind.
- How long has Signora Scott worked for you?
- She started 10 days ago.
Kirsty's references are fantastic.
I mean, if that's what you're worried about.
She used to work for the British ambassador in Rome.
- And what about your cook?
- [Sylvia] Chiara Lombardi was hired by Merrit's first wife.
Piero, the fisherman who found Hector, is her son.
Lee doesn't know that.
(Giovanni speaking in Italian) (Chiara speaking in Italian) (Barzini speaking in Italian) (Chiara speaking in Italian) (Barzini speaking in Italian) (Chiara speaking in Italian) (Barzini speaking in Italian) (pot bubbles) (suspenseful music) - This is a murder investigation, Signora Scott.
Please, tell us what you know.
(recorder beeps) (suspenseful music continues) - The political situation in Aroca is unstable.
The military might be planning a coup, and it's possible they were planning to use Hector as a figurehead.
- Despite the accusations of fraud?
- The press would have been silenced.
- Hmm, if a rival got to him and this was a political killing, the intelligence guys in Rome will take over.
- I don't know what the motive was.
But I have a gut feeling that someone here was involved.
(birds chirping) (suspenseful music) (thunder rumbling in the distance) (suspenseful music continues) (rain pattering softly) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (thunder rumbling in the distance) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (thunder rumbling in the distance) (door opens and squeaks) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (Sylvia grunts) (Sylvia shouting muffled) - Keep quiet!
(Sylvia sighs) And come with me.
(thunder rumbling in the distance) (door opens) (door creaks) (rain pattering) (door creaks) (door shuts) (thunder rumbling in the distance) - You were lying in wait for me, weren't you?
Why?
- Well, lucky for you I was.
The safe in Lee's study is alarmed to within an inch of its life.
- I can cope with alarms.
Who are you?
- An old friend of the family.
- Who happened to turn up just before a man was murdered.
- Why would I want to kill Hector Magrina?
I'm an art historian.
- Michael Priest is, supposedly.
(thunder rumbling in the distance) Who's William Brown?
- William Brown is a precaution.
You haven't told that carabiniere you're so friendly with, have you?
- He knows I don't trust you.
So, if anything happens to me... (Michael chuckles) - You're the last person on Earth I'd ever hurt, Sylvia.
- My name's Kirsty.
- It's Sylvia.
After your grandmother.
(suspenseful music) - No.
(suspenseful music continues) - My real name is Henry Fox.
And I'm your father.
(thunder rumbling in the distance) I could show you my passport if you like, but, uh... it could be just another fake.
You know I'm telling the truth, though, don't you?
- Does Lee know who I am?
- Good God, no!
Nor who I am.
- How did you know I was here?
- Well, I didn't.
Almost had a heart attack when I saw you.
You look just like your mother.
And I knew that you were living in Umbria.
- Isabel lives here too.
- Yes.
- Were you planning to come and see us?
Or just check us out from a distance, see if we were worth the effort?
(suspenseful music continues) (thunder rumbling in the distance) - I'm going to bed.
We'll talk more tomorrow.
(thunder rumbling in the distance) - You said I'm the last person you'd ever want to hurt.
You've been hurting Isabel and me our whole lives.
- It is behind the Bellucci, by the way.
The safe.
But, uh, I wouldn't.
Not tonight, anyway.
(suspenseful music continues) (door opens) (Sylvia breathes shakily) (door closes) (suspenseful music continues) (Sylvia breathes shakily) (suspenseful music continues) (Sylvia breathes shakily) (Sylvia sniffles) (Sylvia exhales) (phone ringing) - [Isabel on Voicemail] Hello, you've reached Isabel.
I can't get to the phone right now.
Leave me a message.
(poignant music continues) (line rings) - Sylvia.
- Giovanni.
I'm sorry to call so late, um... But I think it might be important.
(poignant music continues) (birds chirping) (poignant music continues) (phone vibrates) (suspenseful music) - Hi, Elijah.
- I've done those background checks on Michael Priest and William Brown.
He's certainly had an interesting life.
(suspenseful music continues) - Mrs.
Hamilton said you wanted to speak to me, Mr Priest.
- I want to go to Spello to see the Baglioni Chapel.
I wondered if you might like to drive me.
I'm something of a coward when it comes to Italian roads.
- Sorry, but I've got work to do here.
- Lee says it's fine.
Lunch will be on me, of course.
- That's a good offer.
(phone rings) Sorry, excuse me.
(Ricardo speaks in Spanish) (birds continue chirping) (Ricardo continues speaking Spanish) - Please.
It'll give us a chance to talk properly.
- What shall we talk about?
The tour company one of your aliases ran in Chile and Aroca between 1982 and 1990?
- What has that got to do with anything?
- Did you get to know Hector Magrina then?
Or shall we talk about your time in the Service?
I thought so.
Are you still in touch with Felicity?
- No.
- Did she tell you I was here?
- Sylvia, please, we shouldn't be having this conversation here.
Come to Spello.
- Even if you are my father, it doesn't make you incapable of murder.
- [Lee] Kirsty!
- Buongiorno.
- Buongiorno.
- Signora Scott, I need you to come with me to headquarter, please.
- Why?
- [Barzini] We have some more questions.
- I suggested the brigadier interview you here, Kirsty, but she says you have to go to Perugia.
You'd better go.
- Yes, Mrs.
Hamilton.
- Sorry, Michael.
- I'll just grab my bag and meet you out front.
- Thank you, signora.
(suspenseful music) - Police in this country.
(door opens and creaks) (footsteps echoing) - [Sylvia] I'll get in the back.
It looks better.
- I didn't want to say in front of your boss, but Capitano told me to bring you to the mortuary.
- Yes, I know.
- Hmm.
(Barzini chuckles) - What's funny?
- "Yes, Mrs.
Hamilton."
(laughs) (suspenseful music) (door opens) (door shuts) - You'll see if you can get fish for tomorrow.
- Okay.
- [Lee] Maybe make a light appetizer.
- Buongiorno, Chiara.
(Chiara speaks Italian) - So... How well do you know this new PA of yours?
- Why?
What has she done?
- Hmm, nothing.
Just something about her.
She's very... sure of herself.
(suspenseful music) (footsteps echoing) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (door opens) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) - Grazie.
(door opens) (door shuts) (suspenseful music continues) - What is it, Sylvia?
- That's not Hector Magrina.
- Are you sure?
- Yes.
He's a similar age and build, but the nose is different.
And Magrina had a little scar, here.
- Hmm.
Hmm.
Did Ricardo Garcia and Lee Hamilton both make a mistake, or did they lie?
- That's the crucial question.
What are you going to do?
- Nothing.
Just let them carry on thinking that they fooled us, until we find out more.
- So, who's the poor man on the slab?
- I will check with Missing Persons and Interpol, but, uh, you shouldn't go back to the villa.
Could be dangerous.
Oh, by the way, have you found out more about Michael Priest?
- No.
(suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (people speaking indistinctly) (bell tolling) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) - Elijah?
- Everything okay?
- There's been a development.
(suspenseful music continues) - Kirsty?
(footsteps echoing) Is everything okay?
- Fine, thanks.
- What did the carabinieri want?
- Oh, they just ran through my statement again.
- [Lee] Why yours, in particular?
- [Sylvia] Who knows how their minds work?
- What did you tell them?
- Exactly what I told them when they interviewed me here.
Is there anything you need?
- Not right now, thanks.
(footsteps echoing) (feet thudding rhythmically) (gulls cry) (Ricardo pants) - That looks like hard work.
Sorry.
Do you want one of these?
- Thanks.
- How's Senora Luciana?
- Pretty bad.
- This must be terrible for her.
For both of you.
- Yeah, I just don't know what to do to help her.
- I'm not sure there is anything.
You can't bring Senor Hector back to life, can you?
- Ricardo.
Wanna go for a spin on the lake?
(waves continue breaking) Come on, it'll keep your mind off things.
(gulls crying) Push off for us?
Come on.
Let's go.
(suspenseful music) (suspenseful music continues) (boat engine starts) (suspenseful music continues) (engine roaring) (footsteps echoing) (birds chirping) - Good evening, Mr Priest.
(Michael sighs) (suspenseful music continues) - I don't expect you to start calling me Daddy, but need we be quite so formal?
- Under the circumstances, yes.
- At least tell me what did the carabinieri want with you?
- Gin and tonic, Mr Priest?
- Uh, yes, please, Kirsty.
Lee, good evening.
- What can I get you, Mrs.
Hamilton?
- Uh, whisky on the rocks.
Uh, then ask Chiara to prepare a tray for Luciana.
She doesn't wanna come down.
- So how have you been?
- Fine, how are you?
(footsteps echoing) (Sylvia knocks) - Come in.
(door opens) Gracias.
But I'm not hungry.
- You'll feel better if you eat something.
Chiara made it specially.
I'm sorry for your loss.
(Luciana sobs) Didn't mean to upset you.
- It's okay.
(Luciana sniffles) (Luciana breathes shakily) Papa was... the most important person in my life.
He taught me so much.
Supported me, gave me confidence.
Helped me become who I am.
- It sounds like you had a very special relationship with your father.
- I still can't believe he's dead.
(poignant music) (Luciana sobs) - Is there anything else I can do for you?
- No.
Thank you.
(poignant music continues) (poignant music continues) (door shuts) (poignant music continues) (door shuts) (poignant music continues) (poignant music continues) (poignant music continues) (Lee thuds) (lamp crashes) - Damn it!
(Lee sighs) (glass thuds) (Lee exhales) (suspenseful music) (suspenseful music continues) Hmm.
(birds chirping) - [Sylvia] Have the carabinieri been bothering your son?
- Oh, no, no.
They know he was with his girlfriend in Perugia that night.
But there is something else.
- Do you want to tell me?
- Yes.
A few days before Signor Magrina died, Piero, my son... took Signor Ricardo and Signora Luciana in his boat and showed them his nets and pots.
- The ones near Isola Polvese where Signor Magrina was found?
- Yes.
And in the Lake Trasimeno, there are two sort of crayfish.
The Italian one tastes much better, but it's not allowed to catch them.
Signor Ricardo offers Piero a lot of money to catch some of the Italian one for his party.
- Piero agreed, and now he's scared the carabinieri will find out?
I shouldn't worry.
The carabinieri won't care about illegal fishing.
This is a murder case.
- Are you sure?
- [Lee] Kirsty.
I wanna speak with you.
(door closes) (footsteps echoing) I want you to collect your personal belongings and go.
- Go where?
- Wherever you like.
I'll pay you until the end of the month, but I want you to leave immediately.
- You're firing me?
Why?
I've done a good job, haven't I?
- Frankly, I don't know what you've been doing.
Or who you are.
- I don't know what you mean!
- Let's just say... I think you're bad news.
Leave your uniform in the room.
There'll be a cab waiting.
(Sylvia sighs) (Sylvia exhales) (footsteps echoing) (door opens) (door closes) (flowing music) (bell tolls) (flowing music continues) (gravel crunching) (door shuts) (door opens) (door shuts) (engine turning over) (flowing music continues) (footsteps echoing) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (Sylvia exhales) (flowing music continues) (Sylvia sighs) (fridge door opens) (fridge door shuts) (cork pops) (wine flowing) (footsteps approaching) (footsteps echoing) (door opens) - I took your advice and quit.
- Really?
- No.
Lee fired me.
- Hmm.
Why?
- Said I was bad news.
- She has a point.
(pleasant music) (insect buzzing) (pleasant music continues) (pleasant music continues) (Giovanni moaning) (pleasant music continues) - Wait.
- What's wrong?
- Chiara said Ricardo paid her son a lot of money to catch crayfish for Magrina's birthday party.
- So?
- Piero took Ricardo and Luciana out on his boat.
They knew Piero sank his pots near Isola Polvese.
- They needed the body to be found as soon as possible.
- We already thought Ricardo must be in on it.
- But Luciana was there too?
- Yes.
(insect buzzing) Does anyone live on that side of the island?
- [Giovanni] No.
It's only accessible by boat.
- [Sylvia] We need to go and take a look.
(suspenseful music continues) - Now?
Okay.
(suspenseful music continues) (engine roaring) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (Giovanni speaking in Italian) (gulls crying) (Piero speaking in Italian) (footsteps echoing) (suspenseful music continues) - The body was caught in a net just there.
Not too far from those pots.
(Giovanni speaking in Italian) (Piero speaking in Italian) (suspenseful music continues) - [Sylvia] Hector smoked cigars.
(gulls cry) (suspenseful music continues) (gulls cry) (insects chirp) (frogs croak) (suspenseful music) - [Giovanni] What is this place?
(suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (Giovanni speaking in Italian) (insect buzzes) (door creaks) (suspenseful music continues) (wood creaking) (insect buzzing) (wood continues creaking) (insect continues buzzing) (insect continues buzzing) This hasn't been here long.
- It's the same brand that they drink at Villa Rossa.
(insect continues buzzing) (suspenseful music) (insects chirp) (frogs croak) (suspenseful music continues) Look at this.
- [Giovanni] "Serna."
- [Sylvia] Could this be our man in the morgue?
- I can find out if anybody by that name was reported missing in Italy or Aroca.
- Try the prisons.
See if they let anybody called Serna out unexpectedly in the last couple of weeks.
They didn't just wander the streets looking for Magrina's doppelganger.
This was planned.
- That's a good idea.
(suspenseful music continues) - Look.
(suspenseful music continues) (insects chirring) (suspenseful music continues) What is this?
- [Giovanni] Looks like a helicopter landed here.
- Zoe Hamilton arrived at Villa Rossa by helicopter, the day before Hector disappeared.
From Sardinia, or so she said.
- You think she made an extra stop along the way?
- Mm-hmm.
(suspenseful music continues) (line rings) - Barzini.
- Si, Capitano.
(Giovanni speaking in Italian) (Barzini speaking in Italian) (suspenseful music continues) (engine roaring) - Grazie, Piero.
- Prego.
(Piero speaking in Italian) - Capitano.
- Barzini.
- The helicopter pilot, Efis Mura, is on holiday.
He's not due back for a month and his phone is turned off.
- Paid to disappear.
- [Barzini] Mm-hmm.
Let's go.
- [Sylvia] Okay.
This is what we need to do.
(suspenseful music continues) (doorbell chimes) (door opens) - Signora Kirsty?
- Hello, Chiara.
I'm here to see Mrs.
Hamilton.
- They're having lunch on the terrace.
But I don't think-- - Thanks.
I'll go through.
- The carabinieri have no right to keep any of us here.
I think we should just leave.
- Just be patient.
- Yeah, you're right.
- What?!
- Hello, Lee.
- Kirsty!
(Luciana speaks in Spanish) - What are you doing here?
- Don't worry.
I'm not staying for lunch.
Though I wouldn't say no to a glass of wine.
- [Lee] Is this some kind of joke?
- Salute.
(Luciana speaks in Spanish) - No.
You need to leave.
- I think you'd better let her speak, Lee.
Don't you think?
- Hector's death never felt quite right.
- Of course it wasn't right.
It was murder.
- Lee.
- Correct.
But I forgot to ask the most important question.
Who benefited from it?
- What are you talking about?
Are you accusing me?
- No.
I think you've been the victim of a very cruel trick.
The person who really needed Hector dead was Hector.
(Zoe laughs) - Who sent you here?
- [Zoe] This is ridiculous.
- While he was finance minister, he'd been taking money from the Arocan treasury.
- [Luciana] A false accusation.
- Once Hector was out of government, there was a good chance that he'd end up in jail.
- [Ricardo] That's crazy.
- And he was under pressure to give his support to a military coup that was almost certainly going to fail.
- [Luciana] What?
- Are you saying that Hector faked his own death to disappear?
- That's exactly what I'm saying.
(Zoe gasps) - That's impossible.
I saw the body!
- Yeah.
- Yes, you did, didn't you?
- (Lee gasps) No.
(suspenseful music) (Luciana speaks Spanish quietly) (engines roaring) (footsteps echoing) (officer speaking in Italian) (doorbell chimes) (footsteps echoing) - [Chiara] Capitano, buongiorno.
(Giovanni speaking in Italian) - Last week, a petty criminal called Bruno Serna got an early release from jail in Aroca City.
The poor man didn't realize that he was chosen for his resemblance to Hector Magrina.
- No.
My father wouldn't do that.
- Serna was snatched off the street and flown by private jet to Sardinia.
Shortly after, he was taken by helicopter to Isola Polvese.
The following night, he was murdered, and his body left tangled in a fishing net for Piero Costa to find.
- Who are you?
- Someone who believes in fair play.
- That's crazy.
Even if you're right, we know nothing about it.
- At least two of you here were involved, and we can prove it.
- [Zoe] That's not possible.
- You think?
We found the helicopter pilot, Efis Mura.
He's been very helpful.
- What?
You told me you'd taken care of him!
- Shut up!
- Captain Mura has confirmed there was another passenger, who had to be helped on board and who slept through the journey.
The helicopter landed on Isola Polvese, where two men were waiting to take Serna away.
- Ricardo Garcia and Zoe Hamilton, I'm arresting you on suspicion of kidnapping and murder.
- No, no, no, no!
- Ricardo.
(Ricardo speaking in Spanish) (Zoe grunts) (table crashes) (tense music continues) - [Giovanni] Barzini.
- It was her that did everything.
I was just helping your father.
- Zoe, come back!
- She organized everything.
I had nothing to do with it!
(Ricardo speaking in Spanish) - [Sylvia] Zoe, come back!
(tense music continues) (Zoe grunting) - It's not my fault!
- Stop, Zoe!
Talk to me!
- [Zoe] I didn't do it!
- [Sylvia] Zoe!
Stop!
(Barzini speaking in Italian) - [Barzini] There is no place to go!
- [Zoe] Stay away from me!
(Barzini speaking in Italian) (Barzini speaking in Italian) - [Barzini] I said stop!
- [Sylvia] Zoe!
(tense music continues) (officer speaking in Italian) - [Barzini] Stop!
(Zoe grunts) (Zoe pants) - [Zoe] Come on, come on, come on!
- [Sylvia] Talk to me, Zoe!
- [Zoe] Come on!
(Zoe panting) (engine starts) (engine roaring) (engine roaring) (Barzini pants) (Barzini speaking in Italian) - What are we gonna do now?
(engine cuts out) - [Zoe] Oh, come on.
No, no, no, no, no.
Come on, come on, don't do this to me.
No!
(groans) Come on, work, work!
(officer speaking in Italian) (Sylvia chuckles) (officer speaking in Italian) (Sylvia chuckles) (Barzini laughs) (people laughing) (both panting) (Zoe sighs) (officer speaking in Italian) (Zoe groans) - [Ricardo] Please, this isn't what it looks like.
It wasn't my fault.
- Let go.
- Come on.
- She arranged everything.
- Oh, you're pathetic.
All I did was ride in a helicopter.
Okay, Hector arranged it, to bring me and a friend of his here from Sardinia.
- You didn't think it was strange that the other passenger was barely conscious?
Or that you dropped him off on an island in the middle of the lake?
- I thought it was some sort of political meeting.
- Liar!
- No.
- How much did my father pay you?
- A lot.
That's why she did it.
(Luciana speaks in Spanish) - Tell me about the night of the murder.
- I wasn't there.
I didn't know anyone was gonna be killed.
- What did you think was gonna happen?
- [Zoe] I told you I didn't know!
- Serna was drugged.
And Hector just put his head in the water.
(Luciana speaks in Spanish) (Ricardo speaks in Spanish) (Luciana speaks in Spanish) (both speak in Spanish) - I never want to see you again.
- Luciana, please, don't leave me.
Lucian, please.
(speaks in Spanish) Luciana, come back!
Luciana, please come back.
Luciana, come back!
Luciana, please don't leave me!
Luciana!
- Barzini?
- Luciana.
(Giovanni speaking in Italian) - [Ricardo] I swear it wasn't me.
I swear, look at me.
- [Zoe] Ricardo!
(officer speaks Italian) - [Zoe] You're hurting me.
Get off!
I can walk!
- Luciana.
(footsteps echoing) Luciana.
Do you have any idea where your father might be?
- If I did, why would I tell you?
I get that you still want to protect your father, even though he hasn't protected you.
But it would help convince the carabinieri that you weren't involved.
- Papa has a house in the Philippines that no one knows about.
A place called Barcelo, outside Manila.
- Thank you.
- [Luciana] The dead man, what did you say his name was?
- Bruno Serna.
- Tell them I will pay for his funeral.
(somber music) (somber music continues) (somber music continues) - I meant to ask-- - Kirsty!
Whatever your name is.
- Signora.
- Who sent you here?
Hmm?
You're Secret Service, I suppose.
I've met many spies in my time.
You're all the same.
Not quite human.
- Did Hector ask you to get his daughter out of the way, the day they brought Bruno Serna to the island?
- He had some business to take care of.
Asked if I could look after Luciana, so I did.
- Always the perfect hostess.
(suspenseful music) (suspenseful music continues) (door creaks) (door shuts) (footsteps echoing) - Italy has no extradition treaty with the Philippines.
Tell me you're not going after Magrina.
- Me personally?
No.
But I don't think he'll remain a free man for long.
- Do you need a ride to Panicale?
(man clears his throat) - No, thanks.
But I'll see you soon.
- Okay.
Arrivederci, Signora Volpe.
(footsteps echoing) (car doors open) (car doors close) (car engine starts) - You drained the petrol tank, I suppose.
Well done, you.
- I hope you weren't planning a quick getaway.
(Michael sighs) - Let's go to Perugia.
I'll buy you dinner.
- Don't you think Isabel deserves to be part of this?
- Well, I... Have you told her I'm here?
- Not yet.
We probably shouldn't be seen leaving together.
- There's a lay-by about half a kilometer down the road.
I'll wait for you there.
(car door opens) (car door shuts) (engine starts) (engine roaring) - Excellent work, Sylvia.
- Thanks.
- [Elijah] I don't think we need to share the intel about Magrina's location with the Italians.
- I imagine Felicity will agree with you.
- Yeah, Magrina's no danger now.
And I think we can persuade him it's in his interests to cooperate with us and the Americans.
- I expect you can.
(Elijah laughs) Tell Felicity that Henry says hello.
- [Elijah] Okay, will do.
(phone beeps) (suspenseful music continues) (suspenseful music continues) (pleasant music) (pleasant music continues) - You thought I'd do a runner.
- Not for a moment.
(pleasant music continues) (car door opens) (car door shuts) (car door shuts) (engine starts) (pleasant music continues) (engine roaring) (pleasant music continues) (engine roaring) (pleasant music continues) (car door shuts) (people speaking indistinctly) (upbeat music plays in the distance) - They've got company.
- Let's go.
- Sylvia!
- Sylvia, welcome home!
(people speaking indistinctly) (birds chirping) (upbeat music continues) (upbeat music continues) (man speaks in Italian) (upbeat music continues) - Matteo.
I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were having a party.
- No, no, no, it's okay, it's okay.
Please, join us.
- Ciao.
- Ciao.
(woman speaking in Italian) - Henry.
- Isabel.
Isabel.
It is your sister.
(upbeat music continues) - Hello, Isabel.
- I thought you'd turn up again, sooner or later.
(Matteo's mother speaking in Italian) (Matteo speaking in Italian) (Matteo's mother speaking in Italian) - I don't understand how you recognized him.
It's been more than 40 years!
- Well, I... (sighs) I assumed you knew.
I came to see your mother while Isabel was looking after her.
Just before the end.
- Why didn't you tell me?
- What was there to tell?
He showed up unannounced, stayed for a few hours and then disappeared again, just like he always did.
Just like you always did.
- How did you even know that she was ill?
I didn't!
- [Michael] Your mother and I kept in touch over the years.
- More fool her.
- Don't talk about her like that.
(Michael sighs) There are things you don't understand.
- Well, why don't you share them with us?
- It was a mistake coming here.
- [Matteo] (clears throat) Mama insisted.
- He's right.
I'm sorry for spoiling your evening.
- Come out this way.
(footsteps echoing) - Be careful, Sylvia.
(footsteps echoing) (Isabel sighs) (Isabel sighs) (poignant music) (poignant music continues) (birds chirping) - [Matteo] It was a shock for Isabel.
- It's good to have met you, Matteo.
- [Sylvia] I'll see you soon.
(both kissing) (Matteo speaking in Italian) (poignant music continues) (poignant music continues) (engine starts) (engine roaring) (poignant music continues) (birds chirping) (car doors open) (car door close) - What a lovely house.
(Sylvia chuckles) Look, um... Look, I should probably be on my way.
- Oh, no, you don't.
We have a lot of catching-up to do.
Bring your bag.
(poignant music) (door opens) (door creaks) (footsteps receding) (Sylvia sighs) (poignant music continues) (car door opens) (car door closes) (flowing music) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music continues) (flowing music fades) (no audio) (no audio)
