On this episode of Cartoon Academy, we're drawing the king of the jungle as we go from a line drawing to a lion drawing.

Let's draw.

We're going to begin with the nose.

The nose is an upside triangle shape with the corners rounded just a bit.

Now we're going to take an oval and tilt it on its side.

We want to fill in all around that oval, this color that in.

There we go.

Just like that.

Very good.

Now for the bridge of the nose.

We come up and around right into the eye.

It looks like a number nine backwards.

We're going to do that again in the opposite direction.

Flip it in.

Reverse it up around an end to form a number nine.

The pupils one and two.

Now we're going to give it very bushy eyebrows.

Up and down, back and forth.

Nice and scribbly.

Same thing on the other side.

Just like so.

Excellent.

Next is the mouth starting from the middle base of the nose.

We come down, up.

Down, up.

Dash again.

Down and up.

Down and up and dash.

Next we add a couple of teeth.

It's just the letter V. Letter V?

When lions are born, they don't have those familiar tan colored coats.

They're actually worn with spotted coats.

This helps young lion blend into their surroundings.

for the sides of the head.

We start at the base of the eyebrows.

We come down slightly.

Scribble, scribble, scribble, scribble, scribble and end.

Same thing.

Other side down.

Scribble scribble scribble scribble scribble scribble.

And in the chin we're just going to add a little fluff of fur.

And now for all that fur around the head.

This is the main part of the drawing.

This is called a mane.

Now notice the texture.

I'm going back and forth with my marker just back and forth so it looks like fur.

were gonna come down and to a p I'm going to come from the other direction.

Same thing back and forth.

And then we just want to meet right there.

Not all male lions have manes.

In fact you'll find many nameless lions just lying around in Tsavo National Park in Kenya.

Whiskers one, two and three.

One, two and three.

Now for the ears.

The ears are sort of a fuzzy letter C. And then inside a slightly smaller letter C, The average number of lines it takes to make up a pride is 10 to 15, but only takes 4 to 5 lines to make a square.

again, fuzzy letter C and smaller c. We've got a little bit of shading inside the ear.

Just a couple quick little lines.

Just like that.

Excellent.

Now for the front legs and paws.

We come down around and up again.

Down, around and up between those two legs.

Just going to put a little line connecting them.

Down and out.

Down and out for the hind legs.

Where to use a number three shape.

Number three.

And a number three backwards.

Just connect i all the way to this other poor 12121212.

And now for the tail.

Around and up.

Point down and back a little fluff over the end.

Add a little texture just to show that it's fur.

And then sign your name.

Take pride in your work.

There is your lion.

Good job.

I would call that a roaring success.
